Verified Reviewer |Stole and damaged a significant amount of my property
I filed a complaint with the BBB and NAVL blew it off. I've filed a complaint with FMCSA which is currently being investigated. I've also filed a complaint with the Nevada State Attorney General's Office which is under review.
Never, ever in a million years.
When NAVL unloaded my property in Nevada, it was to a storage unit and impossible for me to check off inventory. The driver fraudulently filled out a form stating that all my property had been delivered in good condition.
That was absolutely not the case. I am missing electronics, furniture, housewares, artwork, etc. North American Van Lines refuses to take responsibility, saying I can't prove anything.
The driver is a liar and thief, and the company abets it. Crooked in the extreme, deceptive, coercive.
- Allows theft of property
- Unethical
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: NEVER, EVER USE THIS COMPANY. UNETHICAL IN THE EXTREME

Verified Reviewer |Missing Wardrobe Box - Poor Customer Support
- Missing wardrobe claim rejected; move cost about $9,000; customer sought $450, disputing the rationale and seeking management contact.
Why would a company like North American Van Lines reject a claim for one missing wardrobe where their customer was only requesting a $450 reimbursement? I don't agree with the rejection rationale provided: 'You signed the documents upon delivery, and therefore it is your responsibility.' When you have four movers all carrying boxes and multiple questions coming at you on an ongoing basis, is it reasonable to expect one box could be missed?
I paid North American almost $9,000 for my move and did not ask for any additional money for the other minor damage we encountered, i.e., small nicks and scratches on our furniture.
Seems quite unfair. I would like to have a conversation with someone in management about this situation, but I'm not sure how to get ahold of them.
- Contracted movers were nice and worked hard
- Reconciliation of goods picked up vs delivered is very poor
Preferred solution: Reimbursement for one missing wardrobe box
User's recommendation: Consider a different moving company and slow the moving process down to ensure all your goods arrive as expected

Verified ReviewerMissing/stolen items
- Recommended by The American Legion.
- Packers blamed; some items went into unlabeled boxes.
- Many items missing; insurance valued loss at $150.
Do not use them. do not purchase the insurance, it does nothing to replace missing items, or to give money to replace stolen items. Then agent stated that everything was put in boxes and then in a POD, which was not true.
We chose this company because they were recommended by The American Legion. I personally am of the opinion that the individuals that did the packing were to blame.
We received all of the labeled boxes. Apparently they were packing chosen items into boxes that were not labeled.
The contract agent for American Van Lines stated that "all boxes are labeled, put in a POD and in an air-conditioned storage facility", We had to store the items for a couple of months. We are missing an incredible amount and buying insurance is a joke as they deemed the value of all missing items was $150.00.
User's recommendation: Do not use this moving company

Verified ReviewerTheft of 40+ items made us unload their own truck
- They lied and charged more than proposed.
- They lost 40+ boxes and didn't honor the extra insurance.
- They are untrustworthy and may steal items.
Lied to us. Wanted more money than proposed.
Lost 40 plus of our boxes didnt stand behind the extra money we paid for insurance their completely inept liars and are most likely to steal the items you ship rather than deliver them. Theyre nothing but a illegal mob there for the fleecing of the coustomer and theft of their items
User's recommendation: Don’t ever use them. Their liars and robbing thief’s

- They demanded extra money.
- They wouldn't access the driveway, forcing a U-Haul.
- They damaged items and violated the contract.
They showed up asking for more the. The contractions price.
Only had one 59 year old and a 18 year old that weighed 100lbs and couldnt lift anything. Would not go up our driver way. Made us rent a u haul then transfer the items into the truck then move them into our house. Violated every single part of our contract lost 30% of everything we moved.
Broke televised every thing and would not stand buy the extra money we put forth as to insure our items.
Their complete crooks no one should ever be involved with them. They re completely unreliable and nothing but absolute liars

Verified ReviewerThings broken in the move. I am handicapped so I paid them to unpack
- Paid $1,000 to unpack; items arrived damaged.
- Evidence attached; no reply yet.
- Damaged items include scooter, bed, and chair.
I sent this today. It is my third attempt
April 21, 2020
I was told me that you would get back to me regarding the mess that was left when I paid $1,000 to have your men unpack.
To date, I have not heard from you.
Here are some pictures and other evidence.
1. I paid them to unpack and this is what I got (ENTITLED MESS IN LIVING ROOM
2. The scooter was thrown on top of the things in the cage. I attach a letter from the maintenance man.
The first letter was from somebody who knew nothing about maintenance. Note the battery was in the living room and not even with the scooter. It was shoved in my wheel chair.
The scooter was upside down on one of my chairs in the cage. Unfortunately, there is not a clear picture of what they did.
It is broken in that picture as you can that the scooter is broker.
I had to leave it behind because the maintenance man could not make it work. HIs note is attached.
3. Furniture before before North American Van Lines picked up my furniture. It was like new.
4.
Bookcase with lights working before I left. That was broken in shipping.
5. Waste Basket is just a small sample of how things arrived in Texas.
6. I have called Temperpedic, changed the batteries and gone through the steps and the frame is broken.
Attached please find the receipt for the bed and a letter from my housekeeper who helped me prepare for the move.
I also include a letter from Marilyn Bettis who saw the driver struggle with the extra long twin size mattress and threw it into the street.
Thus I had to sleep in a recliner the entire time I was there. Margie Lothamer asked if I can see any dirt on the mattress. I find that incredibly insulting. I have to sleep at zero gravity because I'm handicapped.
Why on earth would I take a broken bed with me and who would sleep on a mattress that was not wrapped when moved and then thrown into the street.
7. Living room before I left. Both of these recliners were broken in the move.
8. The Massage chair does not work properly.
Attached is a letter from somebody who used it before I left.
9. Please note how the fireplace/bookcase was placed in the apartment. I could not walk into the room with support and I could not use my wheel chair in that room or it would make it worse.
I am Filing a complaint with the National Consumer Complaint Data base and other ways to file a complaint.
Thus, I'm giving you another chance to make this right.
I think it is outrageous that even though I've sent you proof you want me to put out additional money for an arbitrator. I have posted the pictures to yelp.
- Paid no attention to my claim
- Incompetent
- Damaged and stolen furniture
Preferred solution: Price reduction
Horrible Service
- The company was disorganized, rude, and slow with many excuses.
- Storage delays, no notice before arrival, and a NAVL damage claim stuck for six weeks.
If I could give a -50 rating I would. I am in my 60's, and this is by far the worst company I have ever worked with.
They are disorganized, rude, slow and full of excuses. I moved from across the country, and the day before my stuff was supposed to arrive I had to call to find out it was still in storage in the state I left months ago...no call, no warning...nothing, except complete incompetence. After my stuff was supposedly "on the road" there were several times when they weren't sure where it was or who was going to get it from A to B. I had to elevate this to the president who totally ignored me and passed me to his assistance.
All I can say is STAY AWAY FROM NAVL!!!!!! I should've counted the dozens of excuses, but it was all so exhausting.
Now, I'm told "you're in the queue" for a damage claim that is already 6 weeks old. Hire two toddlers and a truck before hiring NAVL!

The pictures tell the story. I had a woman who saw the drive take my bed and push it out the door into the street.
The bed broke and I am handicapped and had t sleep in a recliner. Even though I had many letters to prove my claim it was denied.

Not Happy with my Move
- Wrong truck carried another family's belongings; driver pressured packing.
- Five packers loaded, then stopped to save space; we rented a U-Haul.
My wife and I moved from California this last September. We had a lot of things to be shipped, the truck that was sent already had another families belongings in the truck.
I had called and tried to reschedule the move as we were not ready. The driver called and pressured me into letting him come and pack us. He called for extra help in packing the truck, all together there were 5 men packing and loading the truck (the driver, 2 men loading the truck, and 2 men packing boxes). After they had been there for about 3 hours I was informed that that they had to stop packing boxes to make sure there was room for the furniture.
We did not have that much furniture a china hutch three book cases and a dining room set. We did not ship any beds or couches. When they had finished (because they had run out of room) we still had things that we had wanted packed. I had to rent a U-Hual for that.
On the drive up to Idaho I received a call from North American want to give me a survey, I told the caller that I was driving and to call me the next week. The next day while I was driving again we received another call same person wanting to give me the survey, I told her next week again. They have yet to call me back. My wife and I arrived here in Idaho and started to unpack we found things that we had told the packers not to pack that had been.
We found empty boxes packed in bigger boxes.
I have called North American and left a message I have not been called back. If we ever move again we will not use North

NAVL dba Beltmann, dba Allied. SCAMMERS!
- Moved from Atlanta to Pittsburgh; North American used; SIRVA brands.
- Quoted $3,450; final over $10,000; items broken; claims denied.
Hired North American September 2017...move from Atlanta to Pittsburgh . They sent Beltmann to pick up, Allied to deliver .
..MANY companies, All under SIRVA banner, which should be red flag right away. Many names to confuse and eschew responsibility . Complete fraud. Quoted $3450.
End cost over $10,000...including extortion holding things hostage and refusing to deliver . Media intervened. Items delivered . All furniture and television delivered broken.
Claims denied. Things vandalized and marked up. Ruinous company. Endless months of agony.
NEVER USE NORTH AMERICAN OR ANY SIRVA COMPANY.
Their ads, quotes , salesmen....all lies. NEVER NORTH AMERICAN is the only slogan to remember.
Tremendous loss

Moved from Tampa fl to Ranchos Palos verdes Ca

Most of the antique items which was brought from my ancestral home in India
Other items such as office products and kitchen items
The agent or consultant assured that it will be delivered in one week and they took maximum days allowed by the contract
I believe it was stolen and there must be no security where they keep boxes
The mover who delivered the item was in a hurry
Never allowed even the workers with to open the box
Did not give time to count the boxes
Made me sign the papers which said 124 boxes
I have received only a little more than fifty boxes
Very arrogant driver who was suppose to be the leader
Kept saying to hurry and there are no more boxes to bring in
Very deceitful company that is not good for the people who trusted them

There is a good example of why I dump as much as possible every time I move. Lots of things cost more to move than they are worth and quite a bit is not worth hauling along just on logistics alone.
It's all in the packaging. Anything can survive anything short of flood, fire, famine, or war if it's packaged properly.
Anything I intended to move or ship would be packed and protected my way. I have decades of experience in both work and private life with shipping delicate objects (and many decidedly robust objects) to 47 states and have suffered packages damaged from mishandling or by water but not the goods within. Whomever prepared your goods for shipment dropped the ball, and by way of management and oversight that someone was yourself. You or your representative on site should not have permitted anything to to pass the door without proper inspection.
Your complaint then lacks substance and specifics. Letters from third parties are not admissible as evidence.
Where were you before, during and after and exactly what cash value of damage was incurred? You will prove this how?
You have to tell people what is acceptable and what is not. That is a shame , you would think movers would know how to move but they don't seem to care or understand or something. The OP didn't mention if packaging and setup were supposed to be included in the deal, so from that I'm sorry for her but it does seem she didn't pay attention until it was too late.
It looks like she thought it would be all set up nicely and arranged to taste, but moving companies generally dump your stuff and say "here you go pal". At least the stuff that shows up and is still usable.
